From Food Stamps to Financial Freedom: My Journey

I wasn’t always living the life I have now.  There was a time when I was struggling to support my family, constantly worried about how to make ends meet.  I remember standing in line to buy a simple candy bar for my child, only to have my debit card declined because there wasn’t even a dollar in my account.  That moment hit like a ton of bricks, and I knew something had to change.

I’ve been through the ups and downs—working jobs that left me financially capped, living on food stamps, and even staying in hotel rooms when we couldn’t afford housing between jobs.  It was a tough road, but it fueled my drive to take control of my life.  I leveraged my skills in video production, learned everything I could about online business and marketing, and took the leap into entrepreneurship.  It wasn’t easy, but it’s given me the freedom and stability I once dreamed of—and now, I’m here to help others do the same.

These experiences shaped my mission to help others avoid the financial instability I endured. I know what it’s like to feel trapped, constantly worrying about money and how to provide for your family. That’s why I’m so passionate about helping others create businesses that align with their lives and values—without sacrificing what’s most important.

Why I Chose Entrepreneurship

For over 20 years, I worked in video production and content marketing, helping local businesses create videos that told their stories and grew their reach. One of the most valuable experiences I had was when I started producing thousands of videos in the online knowledge commerce and education space. My clients were using this content to showcase their expertise, sell their courses, and promote their coaching programs, and we relied heavily on YouTube to market these offerings.

At first, I was doing this work on contract for a corporate company, but they were so impressed with my work that they brought me on full-time to manage all the filmmakers submitting video projects, making sure the quality was up to standard. During that time, I also took the initiative to start a training program for over 8,000 filmmakers in our community, teaching them everything from shooting techniques to online marketing and content creation.

That’s when I really sharpened my skills—not just in video production, but also in building websites, developing communities, creating courses, and understanding what makes online businesses successful. All of this became the foundation for what I teach today.

But corporate life? It wasn’t for me. I was an introvert at heart, and I hated being capped at a salary and constantly stressed about where the next paycheck was coming from.

So, I pivoted. I took everything I had learned from my years in video production—creating content, marketing, building communities—and put it to work for me. I became an entrepreneur, and it changed everything.

That’s when I realized that everything I’d learned could be used to help other people—people like YOU—build businesses that give them the freedom I had been chasing for years.

I know what it’s like to hit rock bottom and wonder if there’s a way out. But I’ve also experienced what it takes to rebuild—slowly and intentionally—and come out stronger on the other side.  From building my video production business to navigating personal challenges, those experiences have shaped my mission: to help others find freedom through entrepreneurship.

When I think about what my business has done for me, it’s not just the financial gain or even the impact I’ve been able to make that I’m most proud of. What truly matters to me is how it has allowed me to keep my family and faith at the center of everything I do.

I’m grateful every day for the time I get to spend with my kids—whether it’s sharing meals together, being present for their milestones, or just having those moments where we’re all together. That’s something I’ll never compromise on. And my faith is the foundation that guides every decision I make, both in life and in business. Having the space in my day to reflect, pray, and stay grounded in those values is non-negotiable.

What I’ve learned through this journey is that you don’t have to sacrifice what’s most important to you in order to succeed. Your business should work for you, not the other way around.
